The Rev. Monte Tugwete (EDS MATS ’15) is Rector of St. Cuthbert’s in North Delta, BC—the first African person of color in that role. Originally from Harare, Zimbabwe, he holds multiple theological degrees and is pursuing a PhD. A passionate educator and author, his work uplifts marginalized voices and champions cross-cultural dialogue.

EDS is pleased to announce that the Rev. Dr. Brandon Thomas Crowley will join EDS as Director of Theological Education and Senior Research Fellow in Religion, Homiletics, and Ecclesiology - a new position. Dr. Crowley is an African American pastor, author, and scholar in religion, theology, and queer theory.

Carter Heyward, one of the Philadelphia 11, reflects on her groundbreaking 1975 hiring at EDS alongside Sue Hiatt. Despite initial resistance, their 25+ year collaboration championed feminist and liberation theologies, anti-racism, and LGBTQ+ advocacy. They transformed EDS into a vital institution for an evolving Episcopal Church.

This article, "A Martyr for Justice, A Call to Action," explores Jonathan Daniels' 1965 murder and his Civil Rights activism. It then shows how EDS carries his legacy forward, actively confronting injustice and advocating for marginalized communities today, embodying his belief that faith and justice are inseperable.
